Product Description

“It should be everyone’s goal to elevate the standards of public debate, not lower them.”
(Tony Abbott’s address to the Institute of Public Affairs, 2012.)

“No one, however smart, however well-educated, however experienced … is the suppository of all wisdom.”
(Tony Abbott, italics added)

In 1998, Abbott remarked “What if men are by physiology or temperament more adapted to exercise authority or to issue command?” (Lester 2012).  Though phased as a question, it indicated his core belief in biologically determined gender roles: specifically that men are more suited to positions of power, while women are more suited to submissive duties (physio-therapy – a caring profession – was the specific example Abbott cited.  By extension therefore, men are biologically entitled to power over women: patriarchy (being the rule of men over women) is hence the proper, natural (and God-given) order for humanity.  Correspondingly, when queried on the under-representation of women in the Australian political scene, Abbott replied “what’s wrong with that?” (REF)
